One of the more difficult parts I encounter during my writing process is peer-review. I enjoy constructive criticism, and would love if my peers read my work not knowing I was the author and provided feedback to their anonymous classmate. Unfortunately, however, this is not how the writing process operates. Being vulnerable as a writer is a necessity. Otherwise my work sits on my laptop, digital folders only opening up every so often when I review my work.
What is more difficult for me than showing others my writing? Showing others my writing about my vulnerabilities. I struggled with anxiety as an adolescent, and an English class focused on personal essays required me to explore conflict in my life. Below you'll find my essay; it required me to combine the left brain concepts of structure and writing techniques with the more dominant right brain concepts of narratives and reflection.
